What is GDPR?
GDPR – Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data, and repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation) (Text with EEA relevance) and the Act of 10 May 2018 on Personal Data Protection (Polish Journal of Laws of 2018, item 1000)
The purpose of the regulation is to ensure the free movement of personal data between the Member States of the European Union, but also to introduce principles according to which the processing of personal data will be unified throughout the European Union, which will facilitate the application of the law by entities with international reach.
It should be borne in mind that the GDPR also covers entities from outside the European Union that offer their goods and services to people residing in the EU.
The regulation entered into force on 25 May 2018.
What are personal data and what does their processing mean?
Personal data means information about an identified or identifiable natural person. The processing of personal data is basically any activity involving personal data, regardless of whether it is performed in an automated manner or not, e.g. collecting, storing, recording, organising, modifying, viewing, using, sharing, limiting, deleting, or destroying.
